“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14
The women’s bible study group at my church has been working through “Twelve Women of the Bible: Life-Changing Stories for Women Today”. The video for session 4 fit perfectly with the concept of Christian based mindfulness.
The speaker Amena Brown made some very truthful observations about how impatiently we wait on the Lord, “’Here’ is never good enough; ‘there’ just seems like it is going to be so much better.” The truth is, we don’t know what the future will bring; we can only hope it will be all that we wish it to be, but there is no guarantee. Yet, instead of being present and thanking the Lord for the day that we do have, we spend it dreaming of what we think will be a better future. When we spend so much time looking forward to a better future, we can easily forget to thank God for what we do have today.
Amena reminds us, “Maybe it is time to learn that there is a lot more to being ‘here’ than you think!”. In order to appreciate what we will have in the future, we need to learn to appreciate what we have today. Thankfulness takes place in the present. Don’t miss out on the good things that you already have in life just because you are too busy looking to the future.
Where ever you are right now, stop and thank God for three things that you currently have in your life.
